Those holidaying in Spinges are looking for tranquil idylls – and will find them there. Spinges is a tranquil place on earth, a village where the world seems to stand still at times and life has a slower pulse. Despite this, Spinges has a moving past, and found an entry in the history records of the Napoleonic Wars through the heroine of the Tyrolean Wars of Independence, Katharina Lanz, the brave "Maiden of Spinges." Today, however, the village again indulges in a calm and peaceful lifestyle and offers the attentive observer a look at the precious jewels of nature in an original countryside: the innate charm of the Spingeser Alm (mountain pasture), the gracefulness of the Lärchenwiesen, the forest full of history... and a breathtaking view of the Brixner valley basin and its surrounding villages, the Puster valley and in the distance, the mountains of South Tyrol. Spinges lies on a valley bottom at an elevation of 1105 m, bordered by the Eisack river and Valler stream. Spinges was first documented in 1174, when Bishop Heinrich of Brixen died and left the cathedral chapter a tithe to Spinges as benefice. |
