Mühlbach je historicky významné místo na vstupu do údolí Pustertal. Vesnice s 1 000 obyvateli leží v nadmořské výšce 777 m a nadchne starobylými domky, honosnými sídly a exkluzivními domy. Mühlbach má pro Gitschberg Jochtal zvláštní význam, neboť vesnice je centrem této horské oblasti. Navíc je Mühlbach už od roku 1269 střediskovou obcí a se zdejší celnicí Mühlbacher Klause byl dříve považován za hranici mezi Gorickým a Tyrolským hrabstvím. Pod obec Mühlbach spadají i vesnice Meransen, Vals a Spinges. Spolu s nimi má Mühlbach necelé 3 000 obyvatel.
