The Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm high plateau extends over 20 km² at an altitude of 1,500 to 2,200 metres above the Eisacktal valley. Along with Seiser Alm, it’s one of the largest high-mountain plateaus in Europe!

Those who love nature and history equally will find that Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm plateau offers an excellent combination of both. For example, you can start by exploring the idyllic Alpine meadows and natural attractions such as the Tschuppwaldsee lake or the Laiermoos biotope, and then go on to discover the cultural attractions and historical monuments that Rodenecker-Lüsner plateau has to offer. These include a stone-age hunting campsite and the Pianer Kreuz chapel, which was blessed and consecrated from a helicopter by Pope Benedict XVI in 2008. Even if all you are looking for is some peace and quiet, this plateau is a great place for you: lie down on the meadow and let the birdsong and buzzing of bees lull you into a state of bliss as you bask in the sun!

The Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm plateau is also perfect for a family outing. There are several child-friendly walking paths and a good choice of huts serving refreshments along the way. Imagine indulging with traditional South Tyrolean specialities while you take in the fantastic view of the Zillertal, Ötztal and Stubai Alps, Mt. Großglockner and the Geisler and Brenta ranges! And if that is not enough, from Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm plateau you can continue and climb up the Astjoch pass at an altitude of 2,194 metres. Another favourite tour among our guests is the multi-day excursion on the Dolorama high mountain trail. If you are in the mood for a more leisurely and contemplative walk, the plateau offers you the Schöpfungsweg (Creation trail), an experience designed to make the visitor “see, feel and wonder”. The starting point is by the Zumis car park. From there, the path leads to the Pianer Kreuz chapel. Various works of art along the way portray the stages of creation, inviting the wanderer to pause and contemplate.

The Rodenecker-Lüsner Alm plateau is also a magnificent destination for a winter outing. Whether you prefer cross-country skiing, tobogganing, or walking on groomed winter trails, here you will find everything you can wish for, from pleasant paths to spectacular panoramic runs.
